Staying Cool during the Dog Days of Summer!

Heat exhaustion occurs as your body temperature rises, preventing perspiration and leading to thirst, fatigue, and leg and abdominal cramps. Children, seniors and people who are obese are especially vulnerable to the sun’s effects.

Here are a few tips to stay cool during these hot days of summer.

·    Drink plenty of water or other fluids

·    Sit under an umbrella or other shade

·    Wear a wide-brimmed hat

·    Avoid Alcohol and caffeine

·    Freeze small water bottles

·    Take a dip in a kiddie pool, it’s not just for kids

·    Have a water balloon fight

·    Eat out at your favorite (air-conditioned) restaurant

·   Get naked – remember to close the blinds!

·   Give your parents a call – loved ones become especially vulnerable to high temps

·   Don’t forget your pet!  High temps take a toll on animals too.  Provide them plenty of shade and water.
